A short punchy ride through the Green Wedge sampling what these amazing backroads have to offer.
Amazing views at Sugarloaf and Strathewen are just some of the things that make this little loop a special one.
Getting there:
Melbourne to Hurstbridge: 45 mins
Melbourne (Southern Cross) to Hurstbridge: 1hr
Notes:
– The ride begins at Hurstbridge train station
– There’s nothing on course in the way of shops or cafes but if you venture a few km’s off course into St Andrews you’ll find a fantastic bakery at “A Local Baker” or pizza at “A Boy Named Sue”
– 63% of this course is gravel and the roads are all smooth and ridable. Bare in mind that there is quite a bit of climbing in this little loop and at times it gets quite pinchy
– This route takes you past Sugar Load Reservoir and the back roads through Christmas Hills onto Smiths Gully via One Tree Hill Reserve, probing the base of Kinglake in the small towns of St Andrews and Strathewen before heading back out through Arthurs Creek, Nutfield and again into Hurstbridge
– Stunning vistas, rolling countryside, smooth and quite gravel roads as well as the solar farm and reservoir at Sugarloaf are all highlights of this ride
