I’m trying to be rational about this, but my car’s AC went from “fine” to “why is my steering wheel hot?” in a week. It still blows air, just… not cold. No weird smells, no obvious leaks, no warning lights. Is this usually something simple like a filter, or am I already in “compressor funeral” territory?

That drop-off is super common, and it doesn’t always mean disaster. A clogged cabin filter can reduce airflow, but if Car AC not blowing cold air, you’re often looking at low refrigerant (tiny leak), a faulty pressure switch, a weak compressor clutch, or a condenser issue. The quickest way to avoid guesswork is a proper pressure/temperature test and dye check - most shops offering car ac repair can pinpoint it in one visit and keep it from turning into a bigger bill.

I’ve learned the hard way that small car issues never stay small when you ignore them. A quick inspection and basic maintenance check can save you from surprise breakdowns and stress later.

Oh man, that sudden AC drop is always frustrating! Sometimes it really is something simple, like low refrigerant or a clogged cabin filter, but other times it could hint at bigger issues like a failing compressor. If you want a more budget-friendly approach while weighing repair options, I’ve found checking out https://www.autobidmaster.com/en/locations/usa/kentucky/bank-vehicles/  auctions really helpful. They have a wide range of bank and donation vehicles, so even if your current car ends up needing major work, you could score a solid replacement at a fraction of the retail price. Definitely worth browsing before committing to expensive repairs!
